Salt-spray tests are standardized test methods used to check corrosion resistance of coated samples.

Coatings provide corrosion resistance to metallic alloys such as steel, zamak, brass or the like. Since coatings provide a high corrosion resistance throughout the intended life of the part in use, it is necessary to speed up the process of decay.

Salt spray tests are accelerated corrosion tests that produce a corrosive attack to the coated sample in order to predict its suitability in use as a protective finish. The appearance of corrosion products (oxides) is evaluated after a period of time.

การทดสอบความคงทนต่อละอองน้ำเกลือ (Salt-Spray Test) เป็นวิธีทดสอบมาตรฐานที่ใช้ตรวจสอบความคงทนต่อการกัดกร่อนของชิ้นงานเคลือบ

การเคลือบชิ้นงานในวัสดุโลหะอัลลอย เช่น เหล็กกล้า zamak ทองเหลือง และวัสดุอื่นๆ จะทำให้เพิ่มความคงทนต่อการกัดกร่อน การทดสอบจึงต้องจำลองการกัดกร่อนระยะยาวที่จะเกิดขึ้น โดยการเร่งกระบวนการเสื่อมสภาพ

การทดสอบโดยละอองน้ำเกลือ คือการทดสอบการกัดกร่อนของวัสดุตัวอย่างแบบเร่งปฏิกิริยา เพื่อประเมินความเหมาะสมในการใช้งานของวัสดุเคลือบ หลังจากการทดสอบเป็นระยะเวลาหนึ่งตามมาตรฐานกำหนด ชิ้นงานจะถูกนำมาประเมินการกัดกร่อน (ออกไซด์ที่เกิด)
